Free time

Taking this free time I have to update my blog.

So, you wanna hear about my week? good.

Monday was the third installment of The Fling's residency at the Detroit Bar. I walked into the bar during the first song of Sam Outlaw and The Country Band. They were doing one of my favorite Louvin Brothers songs, "The Christian Life". I've had the privledge of seeing Charlie Louvin live a couple times, even got my picture taken with him once.

Not quite sure how to put this, but for me to go up and ask you if I can get a picture with you, you have to be pretty important to me, and so far Charlie Louvin is the only person I can think of that I've ever done that to.

But to continue on with the set, Sam Outlaw continued to play hit after hit of his original songs, ending the set with another cover, Merle Haggard this time with "The Bottle Let Me Down".

We Barbarians were awesome, Quon's stage presence was on true form, and it was good to see Derrick and Nathan as always.

The Fling was up next, and this was by far the most packed of their three residency's. It is great to see they are bringing back both the fans from the first two shows along with new fans eager to hear the jams. This was one of the best shows I've ever seen at the Detroit Bar. After their set they invited Sam Outlaw and Luke from The Romany Rye up to play a few covers by The Byrds, Bob Dylan, and Gillian Welsh. What a way to end the night.

Today I stayed home from work because I had a Doctors Appointment. I woke up, chatted on the phone for a bit, went online, where my friend Jared posted about an artist named Bob Martin, and his album "Midwest Farm Disaster", I listened to a couple tracks, and was in love. You can hear the tracks here.

I got dressed and walked down to Bagatelle's (one of my favorite record shops), unfortunately they did not have any Bob Martin, but I did pick up a Merle Haggard double LP.

I can spend hours in record shops, today I was able to chat with the owner of Bagatelle's for a good 30 minutes about music. He can be a difficult guy to crack, but once you've done it he will tell you story after story, and I love me some stories.

Went home, listened to the first two sides of my new Merle Haggard, who BTW I'm seeing in April, and you should come too. Then I took the bus to the Medical Center, where the doctor told me "I have nothing wrong with me", well that's good I guess. I think I'm done with Doctors, they don't do anything, but tell you that you should see another Doctor. But this blog is not a Health Care rant, so I will stop now.

When I came home, I put on the final two sides of my new Merle Haggard, went online, where I found that Sam Outlaw has his own Blog check it out: It Might Kill Me.

I also found one of those "Hitler reacts" videos, I should be tired of these by now, but I still laugh at everyone, if you think this one is funny also check out how he reacts to Oasis breaking up, or not being able to log onto a Paramore chat on absolutepunk.

Upcoming Events:

Looking forward to possibly seeing "The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus" on Monday November 2nd, I'm trying to get a ticket to the US premier. If you have not seen the preview check it out here:

Then on November 5th, The Romany Rye is having their CD release show at the Detroit Bar. You will not want to miss this, I've heard the new CD and it's so refreshing and catchy I was singing along to every song, after just a couple listens. You can stream tracks on Myspace. I look forward to actually owning a physical copy, and this show will be our first chance. I hope to see ya there, and look at this artwork!
